The Anchorage Museum is the cultural cornerstone of Anchorage and provides the foundation of Alaska’s cultural heritage, community identity, education, and outreach. Our Expansion project provided 30,000SF of gallery space, temporary gallery space, a patron’s lounge, administrative offices, informal galleries, and a remodeled atrium. The expansion provides a stunning addition to the second floor. The exterior facade incorporates zinc and Alaska yellow cedar that naturally ages and will unite the Museum campus in its entirety. This project, by Davis Constructors & Engineers, Inc., was constructed over, through and underneath an existing Museum without impact to public or Museum operations.

The first week of May is SBA’s National Small Business Week. Each year since 1963, the President has issued a proclamation declaring National Small Business Week. SBA's takes this opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding small business owners, and others that have been champions for Americans aspiring entrepreneurs. The Alaska District is hosting this event at the King Career Center (KCC) from 8:00 - 12:00 pm. This year’s Small Business Person of the Year is Lori Brewer, President and owner of Caffe’ D’arte Alaska/Alaska Coffee & Restaurant Equipment.

SBA will also be honoring the following 2018 winners:

          Turnagain Marine Construction: Kodiak Channel Transient Float Replacement Project 


Bidders to the City of Kodiak universally caveated their proposals to replace the Channel Transient Float subject to subsurface site conditions. Only Turnagain Marine Construction submitted a design-build proposal unconditionally waiving any claim for geotechnical impacts, relying on its experience installing deep marine foundations and its unique fleet of crane barges custom-built for Alaskan conditions. Turnagain introduced an innovative UHMW floatation system to save in replacement and maintenance costs. Hoisting old floats directly from the water over power lines into dump trucks with its 175’ crane eliminated the need for a scow and tugboats. Turnagain finished a week before schedule.

class.  This course thoroughly examines erosion and sediment pollution
control concepts and design procedures as they apply to construction
projects.  The refresher course is a training and certification program to

          Excellence Award Winner Presentation - Specialty Contractor - Vertical Category

          Klebs Mechancal, Inc.: Riverview at the Bluffs Project


KLEBS Mechanical, Inc. (KLEBS) served as Mechanical Subcontractor for Riverview at The Bluffs, a four-building, 69-room lodge situated on the lower slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain in Denali, Alaska. This $10M Design/Build development featured $1M in mechanical work requiring five months of the eight-month-long project. During the design phase, KLEBS proposed an alternative central hot water plant for the complex located in a single mechanical space that provides hot water above the design requirements and reduces energy usage and fuel costs by 52% over the original design. KLEBS’s innovative approach reduced both up-front project costs and long-term operation and maintenance costs.
