About the Event
This month, NAWIC will be hosted by Karolina Brewster to attend a site tour at the Alaska Laborers Training School (AKLTS), a vocational training school that offers a pathway into construction through its federally-registered apprenticeship program.
There are two newly built (2015) state-of-the-art schools, located in Chugiak and Fairbanks. The Chugiak school has two large shops, four high-tech classrooms, dormitories with access to a commercial kitchen, dining area, gym, and more. AKLTS runs the apprenticeship to develop the workforce of Construction Craft Laborers. This program is an “earn-while-you-learn” program and offers a competitive wage on day one, with a progressive wage increase as the apprentice becomes more experienced. The program takes between three and four years to complete. Apprentices have full benefits (health, pension, training, and legal) and are offered a clear training pathway for entering the high-wage, high-demand construction industry. To find out more, visit aklts.org.
COVID-19 UPDATE: Upon your arrival at the site visit, everyone will fill out a quick form on their phone and your temperature will be taken. Masks are required and social distancing is encouraged.
